About
I am a full time, professional artist specialising in pet and animal portraiture.
I work mainly to commission with the majority of my work being pet portraits and equine art. I love to capture the character and emotion of my subjects and if possible prefer to meet them in person as this helps me to achieve a true likeness of my subject. If this isn’t possible I will consider commissions if good quality photographs are available.
I have been drawing and painting all my life and am mainly self taught. Animals and nature have always inspired me and I love to spend time outdoors with my sketch book. I have been working as a full time professional artist since 2015 when I was given the opportunity to run a gallery in the grounds of the National Trust for Scotland’s prestigious Culzean Castle in South Ayrshire. I have since then gone on to found The Carrick Artists’ Collective, a group of around a dozen local artists who share The Smiddy Gallery in the visitor centre at Culzean.
This year I have relocated my studio to the historic Souter Johnnie’s Cottage in my old childhood home village, Kirkoswald. The cottage which is a National Trust for Scotland property is now in use as a gallery and is a lovely diverse mix of art and history. Open from April til the end of September, Fridays to Mondays from 11am til 4pm
